Kids' Windsurf, Kitesurf & Wingfoil Summer Camp on Limnos Island, Greece

Greece · 10 days · From EUR 1000

A typical day at Lichna Bay starts at 8:00 with the group waking up, followed by 30 minutes of exercise and competitive team games on the beach. Breakfast is at 9:00, cooked in the camp kitchen. From 10:00 to 12:30 it's windsurf lessons, water sports or other activities — the exact sport depends on the wind, which is why the schedule shifts day to day. Lunch is at 12:30, then a slower block from 13:30 for games in the shade or reading. The afternoon session runs 15:00–18:00, again on the water. Showers at 18:00, dinner at 19:00, and younger campers head to bed around 21:30. Older kids get a later lights-out.

What sets this apart from a standard kids' beach holiday is the setup at Lichna Bay itself. It's an enclosed inlet with an offshore wind and no direct outlet to the open sea. The water is knee-deep for up to 50 metres, and at low tide the shallow zone extends further. There are no other surf schools or commercial operations in the bay, so the group has the water to itself. The base sits 20 metres from the waterline, which means more of each session is spent actually on the water rather than walking to it. Equipment is Duotone — wingfoils, windsurf rigs, kites, SUPs and kayaks — which matters for kids because gear that behaves predictably means faster, safer progress.

Kids are grouped into three teams by age, ability and what they want to work on: Windsurf Flamingos, Kitesurf Dolphins and Wingfoil Eagles. Each group trains with the coach for that discipline. On top of the water time there's a trampoline built into the ground for practising freestyle moves, plus outdoor fitness equipment for strength and cardio. Two high-speed rescue boats are on standby in the bay whenever anyone is on the water.

Life outside the bay forms a big part of the week. Depending on conditions and the group, outings include cliff jumping, wave surfing, sandboarding down the dunes, a visit to the salt lake, an afternoon exploring Myrina (the island's capital), tennis, evening trips into town for ice cream, and sleepovers on the beach camping under the stars.

The camps run every summer from mid-June to early September. There are five 10-day camps for ages 6–20 (1–10 July, 11–20 July, 21–30 July, 1–10 August, 11–20 August), a 7-day Salty Groms camp for ages 6–12 (14–20 June), and a Pro Kite/Wing/Duotone camp for ages 10+ with intermediate or advanced experience (29 August–5 September). Camp start and end dates can shift by up to 48 hours because of the Kavala–Limnos ferry timetable. Most participants from Bulgaria travel together as a group from Sofia with the team — about 4 hours by road to Kavala, then a 4.5-hour ferry to Myrina, then a 20-minute transfer to Lichna Bay. Kids flying in independently can be picked up from Limnos International Airport (LXS) if arrival times are arranged in advance.
