The Lemosho Route climbs Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak at 5,895 m, from the quieter western side. It is widely seen as the most scenic way up the mountain. You start in rainforest at Lemosho Gate, cross the open Shira Plateau, climb through heath and moorland into alpine desert, and reach Uhuru Peak by way of Stella Point. You then descend the Mweka trail.
The route acclimatises well. It goes up high at Lava Tower (around 4,640 m) and then drops to sleep at Barranco Camp. The Barranco Wall scramble and the push to Barafu base camp set you up for summit night. Foot Slopes quote a summit success rate of 85–90% on Lemosho. The 8-day version adds an extra night on the Shira Plateau to boost it further.
Foot Slopes Tours and Safaris is a local operator based in Arusha. Each climb is run by licensed, English-speaking mountain guides, a chef and a porter team, who watch your acclimatisation, health and pace all the way up. The package covers park entrance and rescue fees, porterage, camping equipment, meals and mineral water on the mountain, airport transfers, and a hotel night in Arusha before and after the climb.
No technical climbing skills are needed. Most reasonably fit trekkers can do it, so it suits first-time Kilimanjaro climbers with good fitness who want time to acclimatise and plenty of variety along the way.
