Koh Samui HYROX Training Camp at Maraleina Sports Resort

Koh Samui HYROX Training Camp at Maraleina Sports Resort

Koh Samui · 8 days

Training runs on the resort's own gym floor and high-performance training centre, with HYROX classes joining the regular gym schedule. The sessions break the race down into its parts: paced 1km repeats, then the specific stations — sled push and pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmers carries, sandbag lunges and wall balls. Coaches scale loads and running paces to the athlete in front of them, so someone preparing for a first HYROX Open race and someone chasing a Pro-category time can train the same session at different intensities. The resort also plans mini HYROX events on site, which give you a proper timed rehearsal under pressure before you enter an official race.

On the training side, two coaches run much of the programme. Chantelle McCreight-Devalia is a Canadian-trained physiotherapist and personal trainer with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. She has worked in fitness and rehabilitation since 2010 as a CSEP-CPT trainer, APPI Pilates mat instructor and TRX and kettlebell coach, and she writes running programmes — relevant when a third of your HYROX time is spent on the run. Moo Phumsawat is a Thai strength and conditioning coach, certified meditation trainer and Yoga Alliance 200-hour yoga teacher who spent five years as a monk and has been teaching meditation for over 18 years. He handles the strength work, longevity training, body recomposition and postural correction, and also the mobility and recovery side.

Koh Samui itself is the other half of the equation. The island is warm year-round, which changes how you schedule hard sessions — most training is early morning or late afternoon, with the middle of the day left for the pool, the beach or a massage. The resort sits at Namueang on the island's north coast, and the surrounding area is quiet compared to Chaweng or Lamai. This is a training trip with comfort attached, not a beach holiday with one workout bolted on: you get a fully equipped gym, a dedicated training floor, structured HYROX classes and coaches who can adjust the programme if something hurts.

Compared with a standard fitness holiday, the difference is the specification. This is an official HYROX Training Destination, not a resort that has bought some sleds. The race format, stations and pacing standards come from HYROX, and the training classes are built around them. If you have a race date in the diary, or you simply want a week of structured conditioning with good coaching and a pool at the end of it, this is a realistic way to do both.
