Kriya, Pranayama and Ayurveda in the Ubud Rice Terraces

Indonesia · 3 days

The practice is the point here, and it is taught by people who are there every day. Kriya, pranayama and meditation run every morning, and because the group never exceeds twelve, the teacher can see where your practice sticks and adjust the session around it. Complete beginners and people returning after years away are the norm; if you have practised for a long time, say so on arrival and you will be kept challenged. The open-air shala is where most of it happens, with work on breath, hands-on adjustment and arm balances appearing through the week.

Afternoons are deliberately empty. You can book an Ayurvedic therapy, sit in on a talk, walk to the riverside temples or the Campuhan Ridge, or sleep. There is a kriya clinic or workshop at 16:00 on some days, and the evening restorative session and yoga nidra at 18:00 are there if you want them. Nothing is compulsory.

The food is sattvic and cooked in-house: breakfast of seasonal fruit, porridge, poha or upma with herbal tea; lunch as the main meal with dal, seasonal vegetables, rice and salad; a lighter supper served early. Produce comes from local farms and plates are adjusted for vegan, gluten-free and allergy needs if you tell them before you arrive.

Rooms look out over the rice terraces or the valley, are cleaned daily, and have attached bathrooms with hot and cold water. Private rooms with a double bed and balcony, twin-share rooms and single rooms with a wardrobe and writing desk are all listed, with air-conditioned options on request. Linen, towels, filtered drinking water, Wi-Fi and laundry service are available.

What separates this from other Ubud centres is the combination of long-standing resident teachers, the twelve-guest cap and a working Ayurvedic practice on campus. It is a quiet, structured stay rather than a holiday with yoga bolted on — and the location on Jl. Bisma means you can reach the ridge before sunrise and still sleep at night.
