Home › Retreats › Lakeside Yoga Week in San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala
Guatemala · 8 days
The week runs from 17 to 24 January 2026. The group meets in Antigua on 17 January and stays there for one night before travelling to Lake Atitlan. From 18 January the base is Casa Paloma, just outside San Marcos la Laguna, for six nights.
Each day starts with morning meditation, then yoga. There are two yoga sessions a day in an open-air shala looking out over the lake. Between sessions you can hike, swim or kayak from the property's private dock, or sit in the Rose & Hammock garden with a coffee. Meals are farm-to-table and cooked at the property. There is also a massage dock on the water.
San Marcos la Laguna is a ten-minute walk away. The village has restaurants, cafes, craft sellers and a small nature preserve, plus a range of healing and therapy practitioners. The wider area is Maya Kaqchikel country, and the retreat description points to the Mayan traditions and spiritual life of the villages around the lake as part of what you're travelling through.
What separates this from a standard yoga week is the property itself. Casa Paloma has been developed over more than 20 years specifically as a retreat centre, with its own dock on the lake, a dedicated yoga shala, a massage dock and gardens. You are not sharing a hotel with other guests; the group has the place.
The schedule is deliberately loose. The organisers describe a daily programme of activities that you can do as much or as little of as you want, so the week works whether you want two classes a day plus a hike, or one class and an afternoon in a hammock. The group size is not stated on the page.
Shawna Lemelman leads the retreat. The page lists her as the instructor and links to her other retreats and teacher trainings, including a 300-hour advanced teacher training and a Yoga for Osteoporosis series, which indicates a teaching practice that covers both advanced training and therapeutic yoga. Her full biography is not given on this page.
