Lanserhof Lans: Medical Detox & Gut Health Retreat in the Austrian Alps

Everything starts with a doctor. On arrival you get an initial consultation and a body composition assessment, and from that the team builds your programme — this is the part that makes it medical rather than a spa menu. Depending on your diagnosis you may be put on dry fasting (water only) or on three light meals a day, always following FX Mayr's principle that a healthy intestine is the root of good health. Chewing training is not optional: 30 times per bite, every bite.

The treatments are broad. Standard therapies include -110°C whole-body cryotherapy and ionic footbaths. The in-house doctors can add allergy testing, acupuncture, intravenous oxygen therapy, 24-hour sleep monitoring, phytotherapy, and energy and information medicine. The spa area has indoor and outdoor saltwater pools (the outdoor one with hydro-massage jets), a hammam, a menthol-scented sanarium, a sauna facing the mountain, and a relaxation lounge around a fireplace. The dermatology centre handles medical cosmetics — cell-enhancing facials, seaweed wraps, anti-cellulite masks.

There are two lengths of stay. The 4-day Short Stay options are Essential Health Check (diagnostics, performance, balance), Beauty Boost and Beauty Boost Intense, and Me-Time (relax, recharge, reset) for people who mostly need to switch off. The 7-night-plus programmes are the serious ones: Lanserhof Classic is the flagship, an in-depth medical check-up followed by a personalised strategy across internal medicine, naturopathy, nutrition and manual therapies; Kur Classic Plus adds diagnostics and treatments; Longevity applies the Hallmarks of Aging research to slow biological ageing; Hormonal Balance is built for women in menopause or with chronic fatigue and sleep problems; Mental Health addresses trauma and stress held in the body; INUSpherese® is a blood purification treatment via apheresis; and there is one of Europe's first medically supervised weight-management programmes using semaglutide-type injections.

Beyond the clinic, the location is genuinely lovely. Lans is a 15-minute drive from Innsbruck and about an hour from Innsbruck airport or two hours from Munich by car, with private transfers available. The daily included activity programme runs yoga, Nordic walking, meditation and aqua zumba, and you can head out on your own for hiking, mountain biking or swimming in summer, or snow sports in winter.

The atmosphere is quiet and discreet — confidentiality is taken seriously and guests tend to keep to themselves. This is not a social retreat. It suits people who want medical rigour, a real detox protocol, and Alpine air.
