Learn to Surf on Siargao Island: All-Levels Surf Camp

Philippines · 7 days · From EUR 700

Mao Mao Surf runs this camp on Siargao Island, the surf capital of the Philippines. The set-up is straightforward: you stay at the camp, surf most days, and the instructors tailor sessions to your level. Groups are small enough that beginners get hands-on help in the whitewater and intermediates get guided line-ups at Daku or one of the other breaks. The team includes Ben, Clarence, Ivan and Ryan — instructors guests consistently mention by name for being friendly and knowledgeable.

The main break is Cloud 9, a fast, hollow reef pass that's one of the most photographed waves in Asia. It's not for everyone on day one, but the boardwalk next to it is a great place to watch. Once you're ready, the team can take you out or point you to Daku, which is one of their personal favourites — a playful, deep-water reef break off the south of the island that works well for high-end beginners and intermediates. Cemeteries and Stimpys offer more variety when you want to explore.

Accommodation is on-site at Mao Mao Surf, so you're a short walk or scooter ride from the water. The camp has a relaxed, social atmosphere — guests and instructors eat together, talk through the next day's surf plan, and hang out in the evenings. It's the kind of place where you get to know the people you're surfing with.

Off the water, Siargao moves at its own pace. You can island-hop to empty sandbars, explore the palm-fringed backroads on a scooter, eat fresh seafood at local spots, or catch a sunset from a lagoon. It's a laid-back island with a genuine surf culture, not a resort bubble.

Packages are flexible — you choose your start date and how long you stay, and the camp matches you to the right option based on your level, dates and budget. That means you can come for a week as a total beginner or stay longer as an intermediate chasing better waves. Because the camp takes all levels and runs year-round, there's no single 'intake date' — you fit the camp around your trip rather than the other way around.
