Home › Retreats › Loire Valley Yoga Retreat: Forest Bathing & Château Country
Loire Valley · 7 days
The house is called Oranga, and it sits in the Grande Sologne, the largest forest area in Europe and a classified Natura 2000 zone. That means the immediate surroundings are woods, not a resort strip: marked hiking trails start from the property, and there's a GR departure point five minutes away by car. The national forests of Chambord and Lamotte-Beuvron are close enough for a proper walk, and the wildlife is real — deer, roe deer and a wide range of birds, not just the odd squirrel.
Yoga is the core programmed activity, taught on site. Some weeks are themed around the forest: forest bathing sessions, and from mid-September to mid-October a deer's slab retreat timed for the rutting season, when the deer are vocal and visible. There's a separate calendar of dates for these, so it's worth checking which week you're booking against what's running.
The château angle is what separates this from a generic yoga week in the countryside. Chambord, Cheverny, Chenonceau, Amboise and Blois are all between 15 and 45 minutes' drive. On the château-focused retreats, the visits are organised for you — transport included — so you're not working out parking and tickets yourself. On other weeks you can self-drive, carpool with other guests, or split a rental car between several people; the team helps arrange that if you ask.
Because the property is small and the programme runs partly on what's in season, the week you pick matters. A mid-October stay is about deer and misty forest walks. A summer stay is about long evening light, hikes and château day trips. Yoga runs across all of them.
Payment is through CIC bank, with Visa, Mastercard and bank transfer accepted, and the site states payment is 100% secure. Questions go to hello@oranga.org.
