Indonesia · 6 days · From EUR 1450
Days start at 7am with a 90-minute vinyasa class in the open-air shala, which looks out over the rice fields. Breakfast follows at 8:30 — usually a fruit platter, coconut yogurt, and something cooked like tempeh scramble or buckwheat pancakes. The late morning is either a workshop (handstands and inversions, breathwork, or a session on balancing the nervous system) or an excursion. On day three the group goes to Tirta Empul for a melukat water blessing with a local priest, and on day five there's a walk through the Tegallalang rice terraces with a stop at a coffee plantation. Lunch is at 1pm, and from 2pm to 5pm you have the place to yourself — most people swim, read by the pool, or take the shuttle into Ubud.
The second yoga class is at 5:30pm, a 60-minute yin or restorative session using bolsters and blocks, and on two evenings it's replaced by a sound bath with singing bowls and gongs. Dinner is at 7:30. Twice during the week there's a Balinese cooking class in the villa kitchen instead of a set dinner, where you make things like gado-gado, tempeh curry and pisang goreng. One evening is left free so people can go into town — Ubud has plenty of warungs and a night market.
The teaching here is hands-on rather than performance-focused. Classes are capped at 12 so the teacher can adjust people individually, and there are always props and modifications offered for tight hamstrings, bad shoulders, or anyone newer to the practice. If you've done a lot of yoga, the morning vinyasas are strong enough to be interesting — plenty of arm balances and longer holds — but nothing is compulsory and you can sit out what you don't want to do.
What separates this from other Bali yoga weeks is the food and the setting. The villa is a private property, not a shared resort, so the pool, the shala and the dining table belong to the group. The kitchen runs a fully plant-based menu with produce bought that morning at the Ubud market, and they'll accommodate gluten-free, nut-free and raw diets if you tell them before you arrive. The villa is about 15 minutes from central Ubud, close enough for an afternoon in town but far enough that you hear frogs at night instead of scooters.
The lead teacher has been running retreats in Bali since 2016 and trained in the Krishnamacharya lineage, with an additional 300-hour certification in restorative and yin yoga. She's assisted by a Balinese sound healer who leads the bowl sessions and the water blessing. Both live locally and arrange the excursions themselves, which means the rice terrace walk goes through a route the tour groups don't use.
