Home › Retreats › Medical Wellness & Ayurveda Reset at a Luxury European Health Resort
South Africa · 7 days · From EUR 1500
This is not a fixed-date group retreat — it's a fully personalised health and wellness stay of typically 7 to 14 days at one of a portfolio of leading wellness hotels across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Your programme is defined after an initial consultation with the resort's medical team, which usually takes place on day one or two. Based on that, doctors and therapists assemble a daily schedule drawing on Ayurvedic treatments, detox protocols, fitness sessions, spa therapies, nutritional coaching and stress-management work.
A typical day starts with a movement session before breakfast — often yoga on a terrace, a guided walk, or a supervised gym session depending on your plan. Breakfast is a functional meal: grains, fruit, fresh juices, herbal teas, and often nothing processed. Mid-morning is usually when your treatments are scheduled: an Ayurvedic massage, a hydrotherapy session, a mud wrap, lymphatic drainage, or a physiotherapy appointment. Lunch is a plant-forward menu designed by the resort's nutritionists, portioned to your programme. Afternoons hold either a second treatment, a consultation with a doctor or nutritionist, a scheduled fitness class, or free time by the pool. Dinner is early, light, and depending on the programme can be broth-based or a proper cooked meal. Most evenings end by 21:00 — this is a rest-focused environment.
What separates this from a normal hotel spa stay is the medical layer. Resorts in this portfolio typically have a resident doctor, in-house physiotherapists, qualified Ayurvedic practitioners, and diagnostic capability including blood panels, bio-impedance analysis, and sometimes more advanced screening. Your programme gets adjusted during the stay based on how you respond. You leave with a written plan covering diet, movement and supplements to continue at home.
The fitness offer varies by property but commonly includes group classes (yoga, pilates, aqua fitness, stretching, circuit training), a gym, outdoor walking and hiking routes, swimming pools, and one-to-one personal training as an add-on. Some properties have tennis courts or are near cycle routes. Active programming is balanced against treatments — this isn't a bootcamp. If you want pure fitness, the operator's coaches can build a sport-heavy schedule; if you want mostly clinical work, that's the other end of the scale.
The operator has been selling wellness travel since the late 1990s and personally vets each property. Their role is to match you to the right resort for your issue — a burnout case won't be sent to the same place as a post-injury recovery or an Ayurveda-focused stay. They provide a personal advisor, handle bookings and transfers, and give access to their network of teachers and coaches. Every booking is backed by a lowest-price guarantee with the extras (transfers, welcome treatment, sometimes upgrades) included in the quoted rate.
