Europe · 6 days · From USD 490
Casa Metamorphosia represents a new kind of retreat experience—one that prioritizes presence over productivity and creativity over consumption. Located in one of Romania's most pristine mountain regions, this intimate retreat combines the therapeutic benefits of working with clay with the rejuvenating power of complete immersion in nature.
The heart of the experience is the daily clay workshop, where you'll learn traditional handbuilding techniques passed down through generations of ceramic artists. Beginning with the ancient pinching method to create your first cup, you'll progressively explore slab construction, coil building, and figurine creation. There's no potter's wheel here—just your hands, the clay, and the meditative focus that comes from direct, tactile creation. Each session lasts approximately an hour in the evening, leaving your days completely free to hike mountain trails, read in the garden, or simply sit with a cup of tea and watch the clouds roll over the peaks.
The philosophy here is one of intentional simplicity. The house itself is a warm, welcoming space with a sun-filled living room, a plant-adorned studio where you'll create, and a traditional kitchen featuring both a modern cooker and a wood-burning stove. Meals are shared, unhurried affairs prepared with local, seasonal ingredients—fresh eggs, homemade bread, local cheese, and preserves from the pantry.
What sets this retreat apart is the authentic connection it offers—to the land, to the craft, and to yourself. Alina has spent five years welcoming guests into her home and sharing her self-taught ceramic practice. Her approach is flexible and intuitive, adapting to your interests and pace. Raja, her beloved Newfoundland dog, adds a gentle, grounding presence to the experience. By the end of your stay, you'll not only have created tangible ceramic pieces to take home but will have experienced a profound reset of your nervous system and a rekindled sense of creative possibility.
