Morocco Surf & Yoga Camp: Taghazout Beach Week with Daily Lessons

Morocco · 7 days · From EUR 690

Taghazout sits on a bay of point breaks and beach breaks that between them work in almost any swell direction and any size, which is why it's become one of the most reliable places in the world to learn to surf and to keep improving. The week is built around that: two surf sessions a day for five of the seven days, with Sunday and the midweek rest day free. The instructors watch you in the water on day one, then split the group so beginners aren't sitting in the same lineup as people working on cutbacks.

Coaching is hands-on rather than classroom-based. Instructors paddle out with you, tell you what to change on the next wave, film some sessions and play the footage back over dinner so you can see what's actually happening rather than guessing. Beginners start on the inside reform at Panorama or the gentle reforms at Hash Point; improvers and advanced surfers get taken to whichever break is working best that day — Anchor Point, Killers, Devil's Rock, or further north toward Tamri if the wind is right.

Yoga runs most afternoons, usually a 75-90 minute session that's heavy on hips, shoulders and lower back — the stuff surfing tightens up. Depending on the day and weather, it's either in the rooftop shala at the surf house or straight on the beach. Mornings, if you want them, can start with a short stretch or a beach walk before breakfast, though the schedule is deliberately loose so nobody feels roped into anything.

What separates this from the dozens of surf camps along the same strip is size and the fact that the same instructor stays with your group all week. You aren't rotating through whoever happens to be free that morning, and the group cap means you actually get corrections in the water rather than one or two tips a session. It's a working surf week — you'll be tired by Wednesday — but there's genuine downtime in the middle and plenty of chance to wander into the village for tagine, argan oil and mint tea.

Outside the water, there are optional extras people often tack on: a trip to Paradise Valley's rock pools and waterfalls, a hammam in Agadir, a sunset camel ride along the beach, or an evening in the medina. Nothing is compulsory, and the rest day is usually when these happen so nobody misses surf time.
