Koh Phangan · 7 days
Diamond Muay Thai opened in 2011 and has become one of the best-known camps in South Thailand. The setup is straightforward: group Muay Thai classes six days a week, two hours at a time, with Sundays off. The 2-hour class structure is always the same — you start with skipping, running or the exercise bike to warm up, trainers wrap your hands for you, then a full dynamic stretching sequence, shadowboxing, and finally pad work and bag work with the trainers. You'll spend most of the session working directly with a Thai trainer holding pads, not just hitting a bag on your own.
Beyond the standard classes, the camp runs Muay Thai fitness sessions at 12pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and yoga at 1pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for 90 minutes. The yoga is led by Supa and is specifically designed to complement the Muay Thai — loosening tight hips, calves and shoulders so you can recover between sessions. There's also the option of one-on-one private training with a champion trainer for 700 baht per hour, arranged directly with the trainer of your choice.
One of the things that sets this camp apart is the low student-to-trainer ratio. Even in high season (December to March), drop-in students are capped to keep the ratio good. The trainers are a mix of former Bangkok stadium champions and younger up-and-coming fighters, all chosen for their teaching ability as much as their fight record. English is spoken well across the team.
The camp is based near Thongsala on Koh Phangan. You're a five-minute walk from the nearest beach, and shops, laundry, bars, convenience stores and restaurants are all within easy walking distance. The island itself is small enough to explore by scooter or taxi — waterfalls, viewpoints, and the better swimming beaches up north. The camp closes only for Songkran, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day, so it runs essentially year-round. The quietest months are April/May and October/November.
