Costa Rica · 7 days · From EUR 1800
The retreat runs for seven nights at The Jungles Edge in Nosara, on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Days are built around two Muay Thai sessions led by Sean — 90 minutes each, covering technique, partner drills and technical sparring. A yoga class runs daily, usually in the morning before the first training block or in the late afternoon. The schedule is fixed and group-based: you train with the same people all week, eat meals together, and go on the organised outings as a group.
Nosara is a small beach town in Guanacaste, known for its surf, its turtle nesting beaches and the fact that most of the roads are still dirt. The lodge sits in the jungle a short drive from Playa Guiones. Expect howler monkeys in the morning, iguanas around the property, and a lot of green. The organised trips usually include a hike to a waterfall, a beach day, and at least one dinner out in town.
What separates this from a standard Muay Thai holiday is that it's capped and start-to-finish as a team. Sean takes the sessions himself rather than handing you to a rotating roster of trainers, and he organises the dinners, tours and transport so you're not piecing together logistics on your own. Class sizes stay small enough that you get individual correction on your technique.
Food is included three times a day and it's Costa Rican — rice, beans, plantains, fresh fruit, fish and chicken, salads. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free diets are handled; the kitchen has done it before. The lodge grows a lot of what it serves.
Accommodation is eco-friendly and tiered. Cheaper rooms are simple and share bathrooms; the top end is a VIP suite. All of it is on the same property, so you walk to training and to meals.
You do not need any Muay Thai experience. The trainers work with complete beginners and with people who have fought, often in the same session, by adjusting the drills. If you want to bring a partner who doesn't want to train, that's possible — they can spend the day at the beach or the pool while you're in the gym, and pricing is arranged case by case.
