India · 5 days · From EUR 150
A typical day at Mumbai Surf Club starts early, because the wind and the swell are best in the morning. You'll grab coffee or chai at the shack, pick up a board, and head down to the water with an instructor. Sessions run one to two hours depending on conditions and your level — complete beginners start with beach drills and white-water pushes, while anyone already standing up gets taken out to the reef breaks further along Rajodi. Afternoon sessions often shift to stand-up paddleboarding or skateboarding on the flat tarmac behind the shack, with slacklining set up on the sand for anyone who wants to work on balance without getting wet.
The club sits right on Rajodi Beach, which means you walk out of your room and you're on the sand. The shack itself is built into the side of the oceanfront property and acts as the social hub — chai and coffee all day, sandwiches, and proper meals cooked from vegetables grown on local farms. Sunsets here are the main event; people gather on the beach with music most evenings. On the food side, the cafe does a solid thali, lighter snacks, and breakfast, and there's a barbecue setup for group dinners.
What sets this apart from most surf camps is that it's genuinely local. You're surfing in Mumbai, not Bali or Sri Lanka, and the instructors are from the surrounding area and have been surfing these breaks for years. The club also runs a sustainability angle that isn't just marketing — there's an active commitment to leaving the ocean better than they found it, and it shows up in how they run cleanups and manage the beachfront. If you're looking for a five-star surf resort with infinity pools, this isn't it. If you want a real surf experience close to a major city, with good people and no pretension, it is.
Accommodation is on the property itself, in a mix of rooms and camping setups. The cafe is open to guests throughout the day, and the whole place has a communal, laid-back feel — you'll meet other surfers, local regulars, and travellers passing through. Evenings usually involve a barbecue, music, and early nights ahead of the next morning's session.
