New Year Juice Cleanse & Earth Ceremony Week in West Penwith, Cornwall

New Year Juice Cleanse & Earth Ceremony Week in West Penwith, Cornwall

United Kingdom · 7 days · From EUR 1423

A typical day starts at 8:30am with gentle movement, yoga or somatic practice to warm up, followed by an optional cold dip in the river. In late December, that is properly cold water. At 10:00am there's a nut-milk tonic smoothie, then the morning session. These sessions cover teachings from the Celtic Wheel, inner inquiry, breathwork and ritual work. Lunch is at 1:30pm and is usually vegetable dishes or soup.

Afternoons from 2:30pm are spent outside. Lana leads the group to sites around West Penwith: stone circles, holy wells, waterfalls and woodland, along with walks on the cliffs and coves. There's an option to swim in the sea as well as the river. Nature hikes are led by a trusted local guide. From 6:00pm there's quiet time back at the house for reflection, then a warm dinner at 7:30pm and an evening session, often song, sound healing or a fire ceremony.

Compared with a standard detox week, this one is less about spa treatments and more about being out on old ground in winter. The cleanse is built around organic juices, smoothies, soups and salads with no dairy, meat, gluten or refined sugar. Each person chooses either a full juice and smoothie fast or a lighter cleanse. The programme also runs over New Year, so the week is framed around letting the old year go and setting out what you want from the next one.

Lana Lanaia lives in the Scottish Highlands. She has worked with earth wisdom traditions and sound healing for over 25 years and has led retreats for more than 17. She founded Temple of Ioua (formerly Aluna Healing) and creates courses for the organisation Weaving Remembrance. Guest facilitators join her during the week. Expect a lot of singing and music; she is a musician first.

The house sits off the beaten track, about 15 minutes from Penzance and within reach of St Ives and the sandy beaches and coves of the far west. Indoors there's a lounge with a log fire, a sunny conservatory and a secluded garden. There are spots for a couple of campervans, and locals can join as non-residents.

West Penwith has a dense concentration of prehistoric sites, cliffs and small coves. In midwinter it's quiet, often wet and windy, with sea-level temperatures around 6 °C. Bring waterproofs and good boots. The group gets out in most weather.
