Ocean-View Wellness Retreat with Sauna, Cold Plunge & Brazilian Cooking in Búzios

Rio de Janeiro · 7 days

Days here start early and quietly. Breakfast is served on the terrace from around 7:30am — fresh fruit, juices, coffee, breads, eggs and cakes, with the ocean right in front of you. From there the day is yours: if it's a retreat week, you'll move into the first session of the day in the yoga or ceremonial area; if it's a free week, most people head down the hill to the beach before the heat builds.

The location is the real draw. Maravilha sits on a hill with an unobstructed view of the Atlantic. Ferradurinha beach is about a three-minute walk, Geribá and the horseshoe-shaped Praia da Ferradura are a slightly longer walk, and there's a forest trail and a cliff area nearby. The hotel has a driver-on-request arrangement and there are restaurants within walking distance by the closest beach, though several guests note a car makes it easier to reach town — Búzios centre is a short drive for its nightlife, boutiques and restaurants.

On site, the shared spaces do a lot of the work. There's a pool and a large terrace, a sauna and a cold plunge that guests use in the evenings, an indoor and an outdoor yoga/ceremonial space, lounges to read in, and a communal dining room. Massages are available and guests consistently rate them highly. Wi-Fi works throughout the property, and doors use a code system so you can come back from dinner at any hour without waiting for anyone.

The team is what most reviews actually talk about. Mara runs the property and speaks Portuguese and English; Aline, Neia and Maressa look after guests day to day. Guests describe being greeted by name, getting restaurant recommendations, and small requests handled without friction. It's an efficient but relaxed style of hosting — nobody hovering, but someone always reachable.

Food beyond breakfast is optional and worth taking. The kitchen leans on fresh vegetables, good-quality proteins and clean carbs, and includes local dishes: feijoada (the Brazilian black bean and pork stew), peixe (fish, usually served grilled or stewed) and churrasco (grilled meats). Vegetarian variations are straightforward to arrange — mention it when you book. If you're on retreat, meals are usually timed around the session schedule rather than at fixed restaurant hours.

What separates this from a standard Búzios hotel stay is the combination of the practice and ceremony spaces with the sauna, cold plunge and massage offering, plus the fact that the property hosts specific guided weeks rather than only renting rooms. You get the flexibility of a guesthouse with the structure of a retreat when you want it.
