Phuket Muay Thai & Fitness Camp: Two Weeks of Fight Training, Beach Runs & Island Trips

Thailand · 14 days · From GBP 1390

A typical day starts early, because in Phuket the coolest hours are the ones worth training in. You'll be up for the first session in the morning — usually pad work, technique drills and rounds on the bag — before heading back for breakfast. Mid-morning tends to be strength and conditioning, and then the afternoon has a second or third block depending on the day. Some sessions move to the beach beside the water; others are short sprint and hill runs. Recovery time is real, but it's built around the training rather than the other way round.

The Big Buddha run is the one everyone talks about afterwards. It's a group run up to the mountain, which is a proper climb in the heat, and it's done together — the slower runners aren't left behind. The two boat trips, to Phi Phi Island and Coral Island, are the other big breaks in the schedule: a full day off the mats with swimming, snorkelling and lunch. There's also a night out in Patong, which for most people is the first time they properly let their hair down mid-camp.

Coaching is the thing that separates this from a generic Thai gym. Paweł Pająk has been fighting professionally and training in Thailand since 2011, so the pad work isn't rushed and the corrections are specific. Shamrock has ten years of coaching behind him across both pro athletes and people who have never thrown a punch. Piotr Pająk, who runs the 'Podróże Wojownika' (Warrior's Travels) YouTube channel about training in martial arts around the world, is part of the team too — which gives the camp a slightly documentary feel, in a good way. You'll be training alongside a mixed group, typically with a handful of people who've done camps before and several who are complete beginners.

The camp is based in Cherngtalay in the Thalang district, on Phuket's quieter northwest coast. Bang Tao beach is close, and the surrounding area has enough restaurants, cafés and shops to fill an afternoon without needing to go into Patong. The hotel has a swimming pool and a bar, which matters more than it sounds after a double session in 33-degree heat.

The two-week format is deliberate. It's long enough to actually build fitness and sharpen technique, rather than spending the first week just getting used to the heat. By the second week most people notice their clinch work and their cardio have both moved on considerably. Prices start at £1,200 per person for a twin room and £1,300 for a private double, and the price explicitly excludes flights to Phuket — everything else on the training side is covered.
