United States · 7 days
Power Monkey Camp takes place in Crossville, Tennessee, and it's an all-inclusive training camp built around gymnastics and Olympic weightlifting, with additional focus on rings, handstands, kettlebell work, rowing and jump rope. The camp runs alongside the Power Monkey app and the shorter one- and two-day courses the team delivers at gyms around the country, but the camp is the full multi-day version: you stay on-site, train every day, and work directly with the coaching staff.
A typical day splits into blocks. Mornings usually start with movement prep and a gymnastics or handstand session — work on the floor, parallettes, rings and wall drills. Mid-morning moves into Olympic weightlifting: snatch and clean & jerk technique, positional drills, and load progression based on what you can actually handle. After lunch there's often a conditioning or skill-rotation block covering kettlebells, rowing and jump rope, then an afternoon session that might be ring work, mobility, or an open gym window with coaches floating to give individual feedback. Evenings are for dinner and downtime.
What makes this different from a lot of skills camps is that the coaching staff are specialists, not generalists. The gymnastics and weightlifting coaches have competition and coaching backgrounds in those specific disciplines, and because the camp is tied to an ongoing education platform (the app and courses), the teaching method is consistent — progressions are broken into steps rather than thrown at you as one big movement to copy.
Crossville sits in central Tennessee, roughly between Nashville and Knoxville, on the Cumberland Plateau — rolling hills, woods and a slower pace than the cities. The camp setting is residential, so you're training, eating and sleeping in the same place with the same group for the duration. That's a big part of why people get through more progress here than in a drop-in class back home: you're not commuting, and you're repeating the same movements day after day with the same coaches watching.
Expect a mix of ability levels. Some attendees come in as CrossFit athletes wanting cleaner gymnastics; some are weightlifters who want to fix their positions; others are coaches who want to learn the teaching progressions to take back to their own gyms. Coaches scale the work continuously, so you're not stuck doing a beginner drill if you already have the skill, and you're not thrown into a max-out if you don't.
