Raw Food Detox & Yoga Retreat in Palawan's Island Sanctuary

Philippines · 7 days · From EUR 1200

Bahay Kalipay opened in 2007, when raw food living was barely a conversation in the Philippines, let alone a trend. It was the first raw food and yoga retreat centre in Asia. The co-founders built it around a simple conviction that the body knows how to heal when it's given the right conditions, and they gathered a community of healers, seekers, artists, and teachers around that idea. Nearly two decades later, thousands of guests from more than forty nationalities have passed through. The property in Santa Monica, Puerto Princesa, has a backyard garden full of papaya, passion fruit, guyabano, coconut, avocado, moringa, lemongrass, sweet potato tops, and free-range chickens producing organic eggs. What grows there goes straight to the raw food kitchen, where dehydrators, blenders, fermented foods and drinks, and the resident raw food chef turn it into living cuisine. Guests are welcome to watch, learn, and join in. The patio café is shaded and open-air, with views of the surrounding mountains and long evening sunsets. On the fourth floor of The Peak, the rooftop sun deck hosts daily yoga and dance sessions with a view across Honda Bay to the horizon where both sunrise and sunset are visible.

The main draw for many is Inner Dance, a somatic awakening practice that one of the co-founders developed on a deserted northern Palawan beach in the early 2000s. It wasn't designed in a studio; it was received in solitude and stillness. Since then it has reached more than ten thousand people across forty nationalities, trained coaches globally, and found its way to healers, educators, medical practitioners, corporations, and NGOs across Europe, America, and Asia. Sessions are part of every retreat programme and are held in the community spaces or on the rooftop deck. They involve lying down, often with eyes closed, while music and guided prompts allow the body to move and release in its own way. It's not a performance and you don't need any experience.

The retreat calendar rotates through four formats. The Deep Nature Cleanse is a guided reset of body and nervous system through raw food, rest, and detox, designed for burnout, chronic stress, digestive issues, and emotional release. The Palawan Nature Retreat is slower-paced, aimed at life transitions and digital fatigue, with daily practices and ocean air. The Wellness Yoga Programme is a structured introduction to a sustainable daily yoga practice, suitable for beginners and those who want to deepen an existing one. The Holistic Self-Care Retreat is a gentle single-day or short-stay reset for first-timers. All programmes include raw food meals, yoga, Inner Dance sessions, access to the spa and detox room, and nature excursions to Palawan's beaches and forests. Holistic Lifestyle Coaching is also available one-on-one, outside the retreat schedule, for guests who want personal guidance without a formal structure.

The spa and detox room offers gentle colonics alongside massage therapy that combines deep relaxation with pressure-point work. Nature trips visit Talaudyong beach and Nagtabon, the Palawan that travellers cross the world to see, met without the crowds. The property grows around a garden that supplies the kitchen, and the cats are friendly. Rooms are in fan, air-conditioned, and studio apartment configurations, all clean and well-ventilated, decorated with art pieces from across Palawan. Studio apartments include a private pantry, living room, and terrace. Additional mattresses are available for larger groups, and high-speed internet is available for digital nomads and families. Accommodation can be booked outside of retreat programmes by direct arrangement.

What makes this place different from a similar retreat is the combination of genuine first-mover history and an unchanged philosophy. Raw food was not a selling point in 2007; it was a way of life. Inner Dance wasn't a workshop; it was a practice that emerged from the island itself. The community that formed around Bahay Kalipay has stayed involved, and the result is a retreat centre that feels more like a house full of people who care about this work than a resort. If you're looking for polished luxury, look elsewhere. If you want to eat food grown metres from your plate, practice yoga with a view of Honda Bay, and try a somatic practice that began on a nearby beach, this is the place.
