Home › Retreats › Rocky Mountain Yoga Retreat: 4 Nights at a Historic Colorado Ranch
United States · 5 days
The retreat runs for four nights. Check-in is at 3:00 pm on the first day, with a welcome yoga session at 4:30 pm and dinner after. On a typical full day you have coffee and tea from 7:00 am, a yoga session from 8:00 to 9:45 am, then brunch. The middle of the day is free — hike, swim in the river, take the canoe or stand-up paddle out, or read on your porch. Restorative yoga runs 5:00 to 6:00 pm on two of the days, with one day off, and dinner is at 7:00 pm followed by campfire, sauna or hot tub. On the last morning there is breakfast and check-out at 10:30 am.
Sandra Tedeschi leads the yoga. Morning classes mix conditioning movements with slow-flow vinyasa, built to improve flexibility and mobility and to build strength, and each class is sequenced around a theme drawn from the Hatha and Tantra traditions. Afternoon sessions are restorative yoga, meditation and breathwork rather than more asana. Classes are structured so people can learn and progress, and all levels are welcome — the stated approach is come as you are, start where you are.
The ranch sits on 32 private acres of meadows, forest, creeks, waterfalls and ponds, with trails leading directly into the White River National Forest. Accommodation is in authentic log cabins — simple and elegant inside — or in rooms in the Main Lodge or Aspen Lodge. The property has a main lodge with a shared lounge and dining room, an indoor dry cedar sauna, an outdoor hot tub and cold plunge, and a boutique shop selling work by local artists.
What separates this from a standard yoga week is the setting and the access. You can walk out of your cabin onto hiking trails, fish the Gold Medal Frying Pan River, or drive an hour to the Maroon Bells. There are more than a dozen alpine lakes within reach, rock climbing at Lime Creek, Seven Castles and the Pan Handle, and sailing or waterskiing on Ruedi Reservoir. Mountain biking on old logging roads and trail running in the White River and Holy Cross Wilderness are both on the doorstep.
July and early August weather near Aspen means sunny days averaging in the low-to-mid 70s Fahrenheit and nights in the mid 40s to 50s — cool enough to sleep well and warm enough to spend the day outside. The ranch is remote in feel but straightforward to reach: Aspen/Pitkin County airport is an hour's drive, Vail/Eagle County 1 hour 40 minutes, Grand Junction 2 hours 30 minutes and Denver 4 hours 15 minutes. Arriving by car is recommended so you can explore the area, and the operator will help coordinate ride-shares between guests heading from Aspen or Denver.
