Sardinia Surf Camp: A Week of Waves and Discovery in Buggerru

Sardinia · 7 days

Mornings start with breakfast at the surf house, then you load up and head to the day's spot. The school checks conditions and picks the beach — maybe Portixeddu, maybe San Nicolò, maybe somewhere else along the coast. Lessons are progressive, so beginners learn the basics safely while intermediates work on take-off and wave management. Advanced and pro surfers get pushed on technique, manoeuvres, and more technical lines in bigger conditions. Groups are kept small so everyone gets attention in the water.

Afternoons are free. You can keep surfing if you've got the energy, walk into town, hike the cliffs, or just sit in the garden and recharge. The surf house has a TV room and a garden, and it's right in the centre of Buggerru, so cafes and the small port are a short walk away. If the weather kills the lesson, it gets rescheduled for later in the week. If it's really flat, the school organises dinghy excursions or SUP outings instead — a different way to see the coves and cliffs that are hard to reach from land.

What makes this different from a big resort surf camp: it's a small operation in a real Sardinian town, not a purpose-built resort. You're surfing the same coast the locals do, eating in local restaurants or at the house, and the group size stays small. The surf house has quadruple, triple, double, and single rooms, so you can come solo and share, or book a private room if you'd rather not.

The area has more than just surf. Cala Domestica Bay is a few kilometres away and is one of the most spectacular beaches on the southwest coast. Fluminimaggiore is close too, with the Punic-Roman Temple of Antas and the Su Mannau cave system — both worth a half-day trip if you want a break from the water. The coast here is cliffs, small coves, and open sea, and it's genuinely beautiful.

The school's instructors are local surfers who know these breaks. They'll take you to the best spot for your level and the day's conditions, and they'll work with you on what you actually need — not just push you into waves. If you've never surfed, you'll learn the basics safely. If you already surf, you'll get coaching on technique and wave selection.

Evenings are relaxed. You can buy the dinners package (Sunday to Thursday) and eat with the group, or head into town for pizza or seafood. Most people are tired after a day in the water, so it's early nights and early starts. The whole week is designed around surfing — everything else is optional.
