Spring Yoga and Meditation Retreat in Tarifa, Spain

Tarifa · 6 days · From EUR 950 (indicative)

The retreat is based at a 700 m² villa that was refurbished in 2019, keeping traditional Spanish architecture and some antique wooden furniture. It has an indoor yoga room, a saltwater pool, an infrared sauna, large gardens and both indoor and outdoor dining areas. The property looks down a valley to the ocean, with the North African coast 14 km away. It is bordered by Los Alcornocales National Park, so the setting is quiet and unspoilt.

Adela Serrano is a certified Iyengar yoga teacher who trained in Amsterdam with Barbara Queirolo, Kristien Van Reusel and Rembert Petrus, and previously studied in New York with Maty Ezraty and Carrie Owerko. She specialises in injury prevention and recovery, and her classes use anatomy knowledge to make poses safe and challenging for all levels. She teaches in Amsterdam, The Hague and online for EkhartYoga.com.

Paloma Dorado began meditating 20 years ago and has a background in physical sciences, having worked at CERN. She trained as a Sama Yoga teacher, a style combining classical Hatha asanas with Chi Kung postures and mantras, and as a yin yoga teacher. She has assisted meditation instructor Javier de Salas on retreats in Spain, the UK, Japan, Hong Kong and Bali, including the Asia Yoga Conference and the Om Yoga Show in London. She founded Shama Retreats, which runs about 16 retreats a year in Spain and Portugal.

The daily schedule pairs a long morning practice with an excursion. On Sunday to Wednesday, the morning class runs 08:00–10:00 and includes yoga, meditation, mantras and pranayama. After brunch at 10:00, a group trip leaves at 11:30 for a beach or a hike, returning by 15:30 for a snack and free time by the pool. Afternoon classes from 17:00 to 19:30 cover yin yoga, restorative yoga or yoga philosophy. Dinner is at 19:30, and on selected evenings there is yoga nidra or energy healing from 21:00 to 21:45.

Excursions are included and organised for the group, so you do not need to plan transport. Destinations include beaches such as Punta Paloma and Bolonia, and walking routes in the national park. The final morning, Thursday 28 May, has a 07:00–09:00 practice and farewell session, breakfast at 09:00 and check-out at 10:00.

The villa is 1 hour 30 minutes from Málaga airport (AGP). A free group taxi runs from the airport to the villa on 23 May at 14:45, and back to the airport on 28 May at 10:15. You must book this in your registration form or by email at least two weeks before the retreat. If you need a different time, a private taxi from Málaga airport costs about €140.
