Home › Retreats › Surf and Yoga Week on Fuerteventura's North Shore
Spain · 8 days · From EUR 895
Days start with breakfast at the house, then loading boards into the van and driving to whichever beach is working best that day. Fuerteventura's north shore has a range of breaks, from gentle rollers at spots suited to first-timers through to faster reef and point waves for people who already surf. The coaches make the call on location each morning based on swell direction, wind and tide, so you are not fixed to one beach for the week.
Surf sessions are usually around two hours in the water, with coaching on the beach beforehand covering paddling, pop-up technique, positioning and, for more experienced surfers, reading waves and turning. Boards and wetsuits are provided, and the coaching ratio is kept small so there is time for individual feedback rather than a shout from the beach. After the first session there is lunch, then either a second surf in the afternoon or time off depending on conditions and how tired everyone is.
Yoga classes run at the house, generally one in the morning before heading to the beach and one later in the day. Sessions focus on the areas surfing punishes most — shoulders, upper back, hips and hamstrings — along with breathing work that helps when you are getting held under. Some classes are stronger and more active, others are slower and stretch-based, and they suit people who have never done yoga as well as those who practise regularly.
Evenings are free. Some nights the group eats together at one of the restaurants in El Cotillo, other nights people go their own way, walk down to the harbour or watch the sunset from the lighthouse end of the village. There is no fixed evening programme, which is deliberate.
What sets this apart from a standard surf camp is the combination of a genuinely quiet village base, small groups and a coaching team that adjusts the plan daily rather than running the same beach rotation whatever the conditions. It suits people who want to surf properly and rest properly, not people looking for a party week. If you have never surfed, you will be standing up by midweek in most cases. If you already surf, you will get time on waves that are worth the flight.
