Home › Retreats › Surf, CrossFit & Hyrox Camp on Portugal's Atlantic Coast — Peniche
Portugal · 7 days · From EUR 904
The mornings are the busiest part of the day. Breakfast is served at the lodge — fruit, eggs, bread, coffee — and then you choose your track. CrossFit guests start with a guided cold exposure session before the coach-led WOD, which is scaled so beginners and experienced lifters train side by side. Surf & Yoga guests head straight out for their lesson. Either way, you're at the beach for roughly two hours of surf coaching, with 6 sessions included across the week.
The surf coaching is the centre of the programme. Instructors are certified and work on technique, ocean awareness and progression — no two sessions are identical, and they adjust based on the swell and your level. Boards and wetsuits are provided, so you don't need to bring gear. Coaches have trained 400+ surf instructors and 20,000+ participants, and the progression is structured rather than improvised.
Afternoons are deliberately unscheduled. The lodge has two pools, padel and tennis courts, and a gym. Beyond the property, Peniche and nearby Baleal offer kayaking, SUP, climbing, scuba diving, and day trips to the Berlenga Islands, the Obidos castle, and a local surfboard factory. Several guests use the free afternoons for a second surf session or a surf-skate around town.
Evenings close out with recovery. Yoga or a mobility session runs daily, and the sauna is open three times a week — the payoff for the day's training. Group dinners happen regularly, and the kitchen serves classic Portuguese dishes: fresh fish, local produce, and simple high-quality ingredients. Cocktail nights, beach bonfires and live music at local bars fill in the gaps.
What makes this different from a standard surf camp is the combination. You get the discipline of a coached strength and conditioning programme alongside the surf coaching, plus a recovery protocol that includes sauna, breathwork and cold exposure. It suits people who want to keep training while they're on holiday, not just lie on a beach. The coastal setting — Supertubos and Baleal within minutes — means you can check the surf from the lodge and paddle out whenever conditions line up.
Location-wise, Peniche is a working fishing town, not a resort. Quiet streets, friendly cafés and a relaxed pace. Lisbon Airport (LIS) is the main arrival point, with Porto (OPO) as a backup. Transfers aren't included, but the organisers send clear step-by-step arrival instructions.
