Home › Retreats › Surf Siargao: All-Levels Wave Camp in the Philippines
Philippines · 7 days · From EUR 783
A typical day starts early because the wind is offshore and the tide is usually best in the morning. You'll have breakfast at the camp, grab a board, and head out with your instructor to one of the nearby breaks. Siargao has waves for everyone: Cloud 9 is the famous one, a powerful reef break for advanced surfers, but there are also mellower spots like Jacking Horse and the beach breaks around General Luna where beginners can learn safely. After the morning session, you come back for lunch, rest during the midday heat, and then there's often a second surf session in the late afternoon as the tide changes. Evenings are relaxed — dinner at the camp, maybe a walk to town, or just hanging out with the other guests.
What sets this camp apart is its location on Siargao itself. You're not commuting from a city; you're right there where the waves are. The instructors are local surfers who grew up on these breaks and know exactly which spot is working on any given day. That local knowledge makes a real difference, especially if you're intermediate and want to progress beyond whitewater. The camp also offers board rental and can arrange boat trips to less crowded breaks if you want to get away from the main lineup.
Siargao is more than just Cloud 9. The island has a laid-back vibe, palm trees, warm water year-round, and a small town (General Luna) with cafes, bars, and markets. On rest days you can take a scooter to see the lagoon, visit the palm tree road, or go island hopping. The surf season runs from September to May for the biggest swells, but there are waves all year. The camp is open January through December, so you can book whenever it fits.
The accommodation is at the camp itself, with simple but comfortable rooms. You'll be sharing with other surfers unless you book a private option. Meals are included — typically breakfast, lunch, and dinner — and the food is a mix of local Filipino dishes and some Western options. If you have dietary restrictions, let them know in advance and they'll do their best to accommodate.
This is a trip for people who want to surf, not just watch. You don't need to be an expert — beginners are welcome and there are lessons for all levels. But you should be comfortable in the water and ready to put in the time. By the end of the week, most people are standing up more consistently and reading waves better. If you're already surfing, the instructors can help you with turns, cutbacks, or getting barreled at Cloud 9 if you're ready. It's a friendly, social camp where you'll meet other travelers from around the world.
