Surf, Yoga & Farm-to-Table Escape in Punta de Lobos, Chile

Chile · 8 days · From EUR 3150

Punta de Lobos sits on the Chilean coast about three and a half hours' drive from Santiago, and it's one of nine recognized world surf reserves, plus a marine sanctuary. The trip is built around Hotel Alaia, a beachfront hotel that doubles as the retreat space — you wake up, get coffee and a bowl of fruit picked from the hotel garden that morning, and walk down to the South Pacific to put your feet in the surf before the day properly starts.

Yoga, meditation and breathwork run daily, and on days when the schedule allows they're offered twice. The classes are led by Kate Moony's team (booking runs through katemoonyogateam@gmail.com). The surf session is a 90-minute group lesson in Pichilemu, held with professionals and including board, wetsuit rental and guidance. Pichilemu is known as the World Surf Capital, and it's a good place to learn or to get more time in the water if you already surf.

The food is one of the things that sets this apart. Almost every meal is served at the hotel and comes straight from its own gardens and greenhouse. You'll tour the grounds with the head chef, then cook with him — the class changes based on the group, and touches everything from the cocktail bar to more complex dishes. One dinner is left open so you eat out at a local restaurant.

The non-surf days are spent with local guides. There's a trek to the Punta de Lobos Foundation to learn about the conservation project, the biodiversity and the landscape, walking the paths and hearing about the local flora and fauna. There's also a countryside tour through Pichilemu's rural areas — the town of Ciruelos, the Rodeillo water mill, the Pañul area — with a visit to a clay craftswoman and a stop on the Cahuil salt route. A 60-minute massage is included, and you choose between a relaxation or decontracting massage, with different oils and work on vital energy points.

The set-up is a maximum group of around eight people, which is why the private shuttle option is priced per van. It's relaxed but structured: mornings are for coffee, fruit and the ocean, the middle of the day is for surf or excursions, and evenings are for dinner and, on some days, a second yoga or breathwork session. The tone of the week is simple, outdoors, and based almost entirely around the water and the garden.
