Home › Retreats › Surf & Yoga Week: Morocco, Portugal and Beyond with a Polish Surf Travel Crew
Morocco · 7 days · From EUR 975
A typical day starts early because the wind and crowds are better in the morning. On yoga weeks you're up for a sunrise session before breakfast — sessions are held outdoors overlooking the water. Then it's into the van or straight down to the beach, depending on where you're staying. Mornings are usually the longer water session, often three hours split between warm-up, theory, and supervised time in the lineup. Instructors film sessions so you can see what you're actually doing wrong, which is a big part of why people report fast progress. Lunch is back at the accommodation, and the afternoon is either free or a second shorter session once the wind settles.
In Tamraght (Morocco), the camp is the flagship and has been running longest. Apartments in Imsouane have a pool and sea views, and the wave there is famously long — the longest in Morocco according to Makai. The Portugal camp is based on the Silver Coast, near Peniche, which they describe as the mecca of European surfing; April through October is the season. Farther afield, Lombok offers warm water and a quieter scene than neighbouring Bali, Sri Lanka combines gentle waves with yoga and what they call the best food of any destination, and Brazil is new for the 2026 season.
The crew is what separates this from a standard surf school booking. Makai runs its own trips — they don't act as a middleman. That means the people teaching you are the same people who organised the trip, cooked the barbecue, and will be in the water with you every day. Instructors hold ISA and PSW surf instructor certifications plus water-based first-aid training, and Makai is a registered tour operator in Poland (registry entry no. 1070), so your booking is insured under the Polish Tourist Guarantee Fund.
Three names come up repeatedly. Piter is the one who checks the forecast obsessively and will get two sessions in a day if there's any swell at all — he's also the one keeping the mood up when the waves are small. Mateusz, known to everyone as Groszek, came to surfing via windsurfing and is the perfectionist of the group, so beginners get steered in whatever direction suits them best. He likes meeting people and hearing their stories. Kajtas left a corporate job to surf full-time and brings the same enthusiasm to teaching.
Reviews are consistently strong — over 140 Google reviews at a five-star average, and the tone of them is less 'great holiday' and more 'these are now my friends'. Several mention the organisation being tight and the vibe being the reason they're already booking another trip. Beti wrote that the Morocco winter escape was 'mistrzowski' and that she'd definitely go again. Paula called the crew 'the best team ever' and said she didn't want to come home.
