The course moves gradually, so nobody is expected to arrive with a strong practice. You work through a structured series of Hatha postures, learning the technique, sequence and purpose of each one. Alignment is taught alongside the postures, including common mistakes, suitable adjustments and how differences between bodies change the way a pose is practised.
Breathwork starts simply, with natural breathing and breath awareness. From there you gradually move on to traditional yogic breathing and classical pranayama. Meditation follows a similar path, with selected techniques for building concentration and awareness through regular practice. Guided Yoga Nidra, relaxation and chanting round out the course.
What sets this apart from a typical yoga holiday is that it teaches yoga from a teacher's perspective. You learn how to practise correctly and also how to guide others, which is why the course ends with a 50-hour Yoga Teacher Training Certificate. You'll also leave with a personal daily routine built around your body, experience, temperament and needs, so you know exactly what to practise at home.
The teaching is hands-on. Classes include demonstrations and individual corrections, and small groups mean the teacher can spend time on whatever you're finding difficult. The page doesn't name the teachers or list their qualifications, so it's worth asking who will lead your dates before you book.
Agonda is away from Goa's busier tourist areas. Classes take place in an open-air yoga space, and the beach is a short walk away. There's little to pull you away from the practice, and when you do have free time, a walk on the sand or through the village is the obvious way to spend it.
