UnBound: Women's Yoga & Adventure Retreat in Wild Patagonia

Chile · 8 days · From EUR 4150

Each day has a similar shape: yoga in the morning, an adventure or free block through the middle of the day, and a softer evening practice — restorative yoga, Yoga Nidra, or a Roll & Restore session using myofascial release balls before bed. The order flexes with weather and how the group is feeling, but the rhythm holds. Autumn teaches vinyasa with options in every pose, so you can take the more accessible version or the harder one, and nothing is mandatory — skipping a class to sleep in or walk the river trail is fine.

The days that make this retreat different from a standard yoga week are the ones spent out in the valley. The Cuatro Lagos expedition is a full day by boat and on foot, heading between lakes and through forest into rural Patagonia and gaucho country, with lunch eaten outside. Another day is half kayaking on a glassy lake, with the afternoon open for the riverside soaking tubs. There's a dedicated day at Termas del Sol — ten stone pools fed by the Yate volcano running between 36 and 45°C, plus the adults-only Ritual Patagónico circuit of sauna, steam room and warm herbal soaking tubs. Optional add-ons include horseback riding with local gauchos and massage.

The retreat is held in April, mid-autumn in Patagonia. That means crisp mornings, autumn colour in the forest, and some rain — it's the guides' favourite month of the year and the valley fills with mushrooms and golden trees. You pack warm and waterproof layers.

Autumn Adams founded Ambuja Yoga in 2014 and has since led more than 40 women's retreats across Oregon, Sedona, Patagonia, Greece and Thailand, for over 700 women. She's an E-RYT 500 and YACEP, author of The Little Book of Mudra Meditations, and has been featured in Insider, Shape and Asia Spa. Her teaching draws on nervous-system science — neuroplasticity and the RAS come up in the workshops — rather than magical thinking.

Tawa Refugio itself is family-run, built of wood and glass into the hillside, with windows onto the water and mountains from nearly every room. It's genuinely remote — a 2.5 to 3 hour drive from Puerto Varas through Cochamó, or reachable by water — and the staff and guides are part of why people come back.
