Honduras · 7 days
Mornings at Paya Bay start with vinyasa flow yoga in the Ananda Yoga Pavilion. The pavilion is 1,200 square feet, set on a ridge roughly six storeys above sea level, and looks out over the Caribbean Sea, the barrier reef and the green interior of Roatan. It is used for yoga and other movement practices, and the resort describes it as one of the most spectacular yoga facilities in Central America.
The style taught is vinyasa flow, which the resort explains as a form of traditional hatha yoga. Postures are connected through the breath, so the class moves like a dance rather than stopping and starting. The teaching covers breath and movement, awareness and alignment, strength and flexibility. The resort's own description says the practice is meant to carry over into daily life, not just the mat.
What separates this from a yoga studio holiday is the setting. You are on a ridge on a small Honduran island, with the reef visible from the pavilion. Between classes you can snorkel, swim, or walk down to the water. The resort also runs naturist facilities, so some areas of the property are clothing-optional.
Paya Bay is a resort first and a yoga venue second. That means you get a proper room, meals on site, and a small group rather than a packed schedule. It suits people who want two things at once: real yoga teaching and a quiet island week with the sea in front of them.
Groups are welcome to book the whole programme. The resort can take up to 20 people, or up to 30 if some share rooms, and group leaders stay free. Discounted group rates apply. Individual travellers can book onto the resort's scheduled yoga retreats instead.
