Home › Retreats › Weight Loss & Wellness Retreats in Spain: Sunny Reset Weeks with Medical-Grade Nutrition and Fitness Coaching
Spain · 7 days · From EUR 1011
The shape of a typical day starts early, because most properties schedule exercise before the heat builds. Expect a walk or guided hike, stretching or yoga, sometimes aqua fitness in a salt-water pool, and in the more active camps a gym session with a personal trainer. Breakfast follows, and it's the first place you'll see how the kitchen works — usually a varied buffet tilted towards vegetables, fruit, whole grains and lean protein rather than pastry and jam. Nutritional coaching happens over the week in lectures and one-to-one sessions, so you learn what to put on your plate rather than just being handed a fixed menu.
Afternoons are when the programmes diverge. At the therapeutic-fasting and Ayurveda properties, that's treatment time — massages, wraps, thalasso circuits, or in the Ayurvedic programme the more involved panchakarma measures like enemas and nasal treatments under supervision. At sports-oriented hotels, afternoons are for the second activity block, a circuit in the pool, or an organised bike ride. Most places leave late afternoon free, and since many sit directly on the Mediterranean, a swim before dinner is normal.
Food is usually half board or full board, so there's no question of you arranging meals yourself. Dishes lean Mediterranean: grilled fish with vegetables, lentil and vegetable stews, big salads with olive oil, fruit and yoghurt for dessert. Portions are calorie-controlled but not tiny, and the kitchens we're describing accommodate vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free requests if you tell them when booking. Several programmes include cooking sessions or supermarket-shopping outings so that what you cook at home doesn't undo the week.
The accommodation side varies more than the programme does. You can be in a coastal hotel on the Costa del Sol in Estepona, a health spa on Tenerife's north coast at Punta del Hidalgo, a thalasso clinic in Benicassim on the Costa del Azahar, a five-star clinic at Altea on the Costa Blanca, an Ayurvedic hotel at Almayate Alto outside Málaga, or a converted Mallorcan estate at Artà. Prices range widely for that reason — from around €1,011 for five nights up to €7,091 for seven nights at the top clinic — and the differences are mostly the category of the room, how much medical supervision is included, and how many spa treatments come with it.
What genuinely separates one from another is the method, so pick on that rather than on photos. If you want hard exercise and outdoor boot camps, go for the sports hotels and the hiking programmes in the Canaries or the Balearics. If you want fasting or Ayurveda, go to the properties that specialise in it, because those have the medical staffing to do it safely. If you want a five-star clinic where the programme is designed and monitored by doctors, book one of the upper-tier wellness clinics and expect to pay for it. Each region also changes the week: Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca are mild enough to swim in spring and autumn, the Canaries are warm all year and suit surfing, cycling, hiking and diving, and Mallorca pairs the programme with a quiet country setting.
