Home › Retreats › Wellness and Culture Immersion in the Balinese Jungle
Indonesia · 6 days · From USD 897
The retreat is built around what the hosts call the 'Mind, Body, and Soul' concept, but it's less about abstract philosophy and more about daily structure. Each morning starts with a yoga and meditation class on the open-air deck overlooking the jungle. After breakfast, there's unstructured time to use the pool, read, or take a bicycle out to explore the surrounding rice fields. Afternoons alternate between cultural activities and simply relaxing. Days two and four are the cultural highlights, with a Canang Sari offering-making class and a Balinese cooking class respectively, while days three and five include a 60-minute Balinese aromatherapy massage.
The property itself, Bali Palms, sits on over five acres in Laleng village, in the Tabanan Regency known as Bali's 'rice bowl.' There are only ten private cabins, each embedded in tropical gardens and spaced for privacy. A river runs alongside the property, and the jungle setting means you'll hear nature rather than traffic. The yoga shala is a simple deck that overlooks the greenery, and there's a restaurant serving buffet meals three times a day, with an open-air dining area facing the garden.
The main yoga teacher is Eli, a Balinese woman who has practiced for over a decade, starting with Hatha before moving into Vinyasa Flow. She trained with both Balinese and Indian gurus and speaks about 'inner yoga'—connecting mind and body through awareness. Her classes are suitable for beginners through to advanced practitioners. Other instructors and healers are also brought in for specific sessions, though Eli is the constant presence for the daily yoga and meditation.
What makes this different from a resort or a generic yoga retreat is the emphasis on Balinese culture as part of the program, not an optional extra. The offering-making and cooking classes are run by local women, and the staff genuinely seem to treat returning guests as friends—several reviews mention being remembered on a second visit. It's intimate, with a maximum of eleven guests across those ten cabins, so you won't get lost in a crowd.
