Wellness Escape: Surf & Yoga Retreat in Sri Lanka's Jungle

The retreat is based at Into The Blue, a small lodge near the fishing village of Unakuruwa, a short drive from both Tangalle and Hiriketiya. The property sits on a piece of land thick with fruit trees, and four private cabins are scattered around the garden. It's a quiet, green spot with a real jungle-at-the-ocean feel—guests say you can watch tropical birds and giant squirrels from the terrace, and at night fireflies come out around the dinner table.

Every day includes one-on-one style coaching in both surfing and yoga. The surf spots are close by, including a secret right-hand break you can walk to, and a few more waves a short tuk-tuk ride away. Because the groups are small, the instructors can adapt to each person's level—whether you're standing up for the first time or hunting for better waves. Yoga classes are also tailored to the group, with hands-on adjustments and plenty of individual attention.

Andrew Van Diemen, a movement expert with a long list of qualifications, is one of the teachers. He's a BioKineticist, sports massage therapist, and yoga teacher, so he brings a strong focus on how your body moves and recovers. He's known for his down-to-earth approach and ability to help you improve quickly.

After sessions, there's time to explore the local beaches, often empty and picture-perfect, or just relax in a hammock with a book. The whole week feels more like a slow, meaningful break than a packed schedule, and many guests end up extending their stay.
