Nicaragua · 6 days · From USD 689
Villa Laguna is a boutique property tucked inside the Laguna de Apoyo Natural Reserve, cradled in the crater of a dormant volcano. The retreat center has seven en-suite rooms, a communal living and dining area, a library, and lounge areas with hammock chairs. The outdoor rancho overlooks the lagoon, and the multipurpose waterfront deck is the main yoga space, with uninterrupted views of the water.
The daily rhythm is straightforward: a morning yoga practice as the sun rises, breakfast, free time, an afternoon yoga practice, and a three-course plant-based dinner. What you do in between is your choice. Options include hiking in the dry tropical forest, kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding on the lagoon, visiting the colonial city of Granada or Masaya Volcano, exploring the pottery town of San Juan de Oriente, or taking a boat trip on Lake Nicaragua. There's also a nearby horse rescue sanctuary for animal lovers.
Yoga at Villa Laguna is more than physical postures. Miriam weaves in pranayama, meditation, philosophy, and mantras, making it accessible for beginners while still offering depth for more experienced practitioners. The retreat is deliberately kept small, with a maximum of 16 guests and usually around 6 to 8, so you get personal attention and a strong sense of community.
The food is a highlight. Meals are 100% plant-based, using fresh local ingredients from Nicaragua's tropical fruits and vegetables. You'll get a different homemade breakfast each morning and a three-course dinner each evening. Lunch is available for an extra cost if you stay at the villa that day. Dietary needs like vegan, gluten-free, or nut allergies can be accommodated if you let Miriam know in advance.
Guests consistently rate the location, food, and hospitality close to perfect in reviews. Many come as solo travelers, especially women, and feel safe and well taken care of. The retreat encourages you to unplug, slow down, and spend time in nature, but it's also flexible enough to allow for day trips and activities if you want a more active holiday.
