Home › Retreats › Wellness Escape: Yoga and Sound Healing in the Australian Spa Country
Australia · 3 days · From USD 1057
Compass Retreat is run by Nat Dowling and Bec Taylor, two facilitators who bring quite different backgrounds to the same goal: helping you settle, listen, and find your own direction. Bec is a former dancer who's taught yoga for over a decade across Australia, with a focus on Kundalini kriya yoga and pranayama. Nat trained as a sound therapist and nature connection leader, and she weaves storytelling and a deep respect for the natural world into her work. Together they've built a weekend that moves through movement, breath, sound, mantra, and time outside—each practice connecting to the next, so the whole thing feels like one continuous thread rather than a bunch of separate classes.
The setting is Continental House, a fully restored 1920s guesthouse in Hepburn Springs, about 90 minutes from Melbourne. It's a quirky, character-filled building with 12 ensuite bedrooms, a yoga room, wood-panelled lounges, and lush gardens with wandering paths. There's a spa deck with an infrared sauna and a cold plunge pool, and a Turkish hammam for a steam bath ritual. The area is known as Victoria's spa country, and the house sits right on the Goldfields Track, so nature is on the doorstep.
The retreat runs Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, starting with a spa session to land you in the space, then circling up for introductions and a first sound meditation. Saturday is the fullest day: Kundalini yoga in the morning, a guided nature wander, deep breathwork, time to journal and ponder, and a hammam ritual before an evening of vocal toning and another sound bath. Sunday is gentler—a final reset through movement, mantra, and meditation, with time to reflect on what's surfaced. There's integration built in after you leave, too: a Sunday Soothe group session in nearby Castlemaine about a month later, and a discount on private Reiki or sound healing if you want ongoing support.
This isn't a retreat for passively relaxing—though there's plenty of that. The program is structured to help you notice patterns and shift them, and both facilitators are experienced at meeting people where they are. You don't need any experience, just an open mind and a willingness to be present. The group is small (up to 13 people, usually around 8), so you'll get plenty of individual attention and a real sense of connection with the other guests.
