Greece · 6 days
Kea is the island closest to Athens that most visitors skip — an hour by ferry from Lavrio, then a drive over the hills to Psathi Bay. The retreat occupies a stretch of coastline with no neighbouring development: stone Kathikies (traditional Greek suites) looking out over the Aegean, a farm behind them, and the bay in front. Guests spend the week on a rhythm set by the light — early meditation, a yoga practice, breakfast from the garden, free time to swim or walk, and dinner outside in the evening.
Each retreat week is run by a different teacher. Root to Rise (2–7 October 2026) is led by Marisel Douzeni; the August week (23–28 August 2026) is led by Anat Eshet Padani. Both are structured as five nights on the island, with daily yoga and meditation sessions, and the afternoons left open — you can swim, read, walk the farm, or take the path down to the water.
Food is central here rather than an afterthought. The kitchen cooks from the vegetable garden, the olive grove and the vineyard, filling in with produce from farmers on Kea. Dinners tend to run long, often with local wine and, on some nights, music.
The suites are restored traditional stone buildings — thick walls, simple interiors, sea views. There are only seven, so the whole place holds at most around fourteen guests at a time. That's the point: it's a small property, and the week feels like staying at someone's house on a quiet part of the coast rather than checking into a hotel.
Kea itself is worth a day or two either side. Ioulida, the island's main town, is inland and built around a ravine; the ancient lion of Kea is carved into a hillside nearby. Most guests fly into Athens, take the ferry from Lavrio, and are met on the island.
