Wellness Retreat in the Scottish Highlands with Sauna, Cold Water Immersion and Ceremony

United Kingdom · 4 days

CAIM sits in Highland Perthshire, Scotland, on its own land, and works as a retreat in the round: somewhere to sleep, somewhere to eat, and a programme of practices that runs across the stay. Shannon and Rory Lamont created the space after their own health challenges, and the retreats they run come out of that — natural methods, integrative practice, and a preference for things that work over things that sound good.

A day at CAIM usually has three parts. The morning is for guided work — rituals, breathwork, movement, or a facilitated group session. The middle of the day is looser: time on the land, nature-based practice, rest, or a walk. The late afternoon and evening bring the wood-fired sauna and cold water immersion, followed by a shared meal and, on many retreats, a ceremony around the fire. Nothing is compulsory, but the schedule is structured enough that you always know what's happening next.

The setting does a lot of the work. Highland Perthshire is big country — hills, water, weather that changes by the hour — and CAIM is set within its own land rather than on a shared site, so there's no resort hum in the background. That isolation is a real part of the experience: guests repeatedly describe arriving tense and dropping into a different pace within a day.

What separates CAIM from a standard wellness hotel is the level of contact with the people running it. Shannon and Rory hold the retreats themselves. They're present for the sessions, cook and eat with guests, and are around in the in-between hours. Several guests have written about feeling reassured rather than managed — that's a function of group size and of the hosts actually being on site the whole time.

CAIM also takes private groups, facilitators and organisations who want to use the space for their own retreats, ceremonies or gatherings. That runs alongside the public programme rather than replacing it, and it's part of why the site feels like a working retreat space rather than a venue rented out by the week.

If you're weighing this against a bigger, glossier wellness resort, the trade is straightforward. You give up spa menus and multiple dining options and you get a small number of guests, hosts who know your name by the first evening, and a programme built around Scottish weather and Scottish ground rather than imported ritual. For people who want depth over variety, that's the point.
