Home › Retreats › Wellness & Spanish Immersion Retreat on Colombia's Caribbean Coast
Colombia · 6 days · From USD 900
The retreat is built around two main threads: yoga and Spanish. Each morning, you'll roll out your mat for a session that might be Hatha, Vinyasa, or Yin, depending on the day. Mar, the lead instructor, is a 500-hour RYT with additional certifications in Suspension and Yin yoga. She's been living on Colombia's Caribbean coast for ten years, and her teaching is grounded in the natural surroundings. Spanish classes are private, tailored to your level, and focused on practical, mindful communication. The idea is to learn by doing—you'll use what you learn in real conversations with locals, during excursions, and at the hostel.
What sets this retreat apart from a standard language course or a typical yoga retreat is the cultural immersion. The itinerary includes a hike to an indigenous village in the Sierra Nevada, tubing on the Palomino River, a sound healing session, and a guided walk with rescue dogs from a local shelter (a portion of the retreat fee goes to the cause). These aren't just add-ons; they're woven into the week, so you get a genuine feel for the region and its people.
The setting helps a lot. Palomino is a small town that feels safe and friendly, day and night. The beach is uncrowded, the water is warm, and the mountains rise up right behind the town. The hostel, Casa Chapolin, is simple but comfortable—think wooden bungalows, lush gardens, and a yoga deck. It's the kind of place where you can really switch off. There's no hot water in some rooms, and mosquitoes can be present, so it's not a luxury resort. But for the mix of activities, teaching, and food, it's excellent value, and most guests leave feeling they got far more than they paid for.
