Home › Retreats › Wellness & Surf Immersion in Ahangama, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka · 7 days · From USD 1402
The heart of this retreat is the balance between two practices—yoga and surfing—both taught with the same patient, no-ego approach. Each morning starts with an hour of slow awakening: noble silence, pranayama, journaling, and meditation, before the day unfolds. If you're on the surf package, you'll head out for a small-group lesson with Rash, a local coach known for turning nervous beginners into confident wave-riders. The group is capped at three students per instructor, so you get real feedback and quick progress. Twice a week, you'll review video of your surfing and go deeper into surf theory.
For yogis, the package centers on a private one-on-one class with Rosie, tailored to exactly where you are in your practice. You'll also have daily group yoga—morning themed practices and evening yin sessions—plus meditation, journaling, and a 90-minute massage. The afternoons are open: join a jewelry-making workshop, explore the local town, swim, read, or simply rest. Two nights a week, dinner is on your own, so you can discover Ahangama's food scene or just enjoy the freedom.
What makes this different from other surf-and-yoga retreats is the focus. Instead of bolting yoga onto a surf camp (or vice versa), you choose one track and go deep. That means real progression—guests have moved from never having stood on a board to riding shoulder-high waves—and a genuine sense of accomplishment. The hosts, Rosie and Rash, are both established in their fields: Rosie brings over five years of teaching and brand collaborations, while Rash is a local surf coach with deep knowledge of the breaks here.
The setting is integral. Ahangama sits on a stretch of coast shaped by monsoons and reef breaks, and the retreat uses the island's rhythms throughout the week. February is prime season: dry, sunny, with clean offshore winds in the morning, making it one of the best times to surf in Sri Lanka. The water stays around 28°C, so no wetsuit needed—just boardshorts and sunscreen.
