Ireland · 7 days · From USD 1095
The retreat runs out of a dedicated residential centre near Kinvara, on the edge of the Burren in County Galway. Dave founded it in 1999 as Ireland's first purpose-built yoga and meditation retreat, and it's still run by the same team. That shows in small ways: the yoga room is properly set up for practice, the bedrooms are soundproofed, and the schedule has been refined over 25 years rather than assembled around a single teacher's availability.
A typical day starts with pranayama and meditation before breakfast, then a longer asana class mid-morning. Teachers vary by week — Eileen is named repeatedly in guest reviews for the clarity of her instruction — and all of them have years of training behind them. Classes suit beginners and experienced practitioners in the same room; teachers offer modifications and will adjust if you're managing an injury or haven't practised in years.
Afternoons are for the Burren itself. A guide takes the group out most days: walking the limestone terraces, following old tracks up to viewpoints over Galway Bay, visiting the dolmens and ruined churches that dot the area. In summer there are optional swims at beaches like Fanore or Traught. Walks are usually two to three hours with stops, and there's always the option to sit one out and stay at the centre.
Evenings are quieter. Dinner is the main event — three courses, all vegetarian, cooked with organic produce from local growers, and consistently the thing guests single out in reviews. Some nights there's a sound bath or a talk; on others people just read in the sitting room or go to bed early, which is half the point.
It's not a fitness retreat in the bootcamp sense — there's no gym, no strength programming, no weighing of food. What it is: a well-run yoga and walking week in a genuinely unusual landscape, with food and sleep treated as seriously as the practice. If you want to be pushed physically, this isn't it. If you want to come home rested and having seen a part of Ireland most visitors skip, it is.
