Germany · 6 days · From USD 1300
The course is framed by the Yoga Sutra's definition of asana—steady and comfortable—which the teachers use to argue that stillness is a skill you have to train for. Yin Yoga, with its long holds and deep tissue work, is the tool. Over six days you'll cover a full syllabus: the history and theory of yin, 26 asanas (caterpillar, swan, frog, and others), alignment and adjustments, yogic anatomy (nadis, pancha prana, pancha kosha), the meridian system from Chinese medicine, and Western anatomy as it applies to the hips, spine, and nervous system. You'll also be taught how to sequence and deliver a yin class—what to say, when to say it, how to use props safely.
The training follows Paul Grilley's method, which blends Daoist yoga with modern anatomy. That means a strong emphasis on the meridian lines—lung, stomach, heart, bladder, and so on—and how specific poses stimulate them. Katharina and Sandeep are practical about this: you learn the system, then you feel it in your own body during the twice-daily practices.
The setting helps. Heimbach is a small town on the edge of the Eifel National Park, and the yoga shala sits close enough to the forest that you hear birds during savasana. The accommodation is a short walk from Lake Rursee, and the daily schedule leaves most afternoons with a couple of hours free—enough time for a swim or a walk before the evening session.
