Yoga and Hiking Week in the Kitzbühel Alps, Austria

Yoga and Hiking Week in the Kitzbühel Alps, Austria

Kitzbühel · 2 days · From EUR 115

A typical day starts at 6am with meditation, mantra chanting and a short talk in the Satsang room. Several times a week, weather permitting, that session becomes a silent walk outdoors instead. At 8am there is a 90-minute asana and pranayama class, sometimes followed by a short talk on an aspect of yoga. Brunch is at 10am, and from 11am you have free time for the sauna, a massage, a walk, or an excursion. A light snack and tea are served on the terrace at 1pm. The second asana and pranayama class runs from 4pm to 5:30pm, dinner is at 6pm, and the day closes with meditation, chanting and a talk from 8pm to 9:30pm.

The daily rate covers the yoga programme, your room, and two vegetarian meals. The yoga itself is €66 per day, and accommodation and meals are added on top: €49 for the women-only dormitory, €57 for a shared room, €78 for a double, or €95 for a single. A €5 visitor's tax per person per night applies, and rates are valid until 30 September 2026. If the eco-hotel is full, you may be placed in a nearby guesthouse within walking distance, in a single or double room, but you still eat at the hotel.

The teachers are all practising yogis who have completed the internationally recognised Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training Course and have taught at Sivananda centres and ashrams in several countries. They continue their own training in philosophy, didactics and practice. You can book an optional welcome meeting to talk through your questions and interests, and a personalised Yoga@Home plan may come out of that conversation.

The setting is the village of Reith in the Tyrolean Alps, a few kilometres from Kitzbühel. Walking paths run from the door through forest, and the retreat organises guided one-hour walks several times a week. In summer you can swim in the Schwarzsee, a warm moor lake 3km away with mountain views, or the quieter Gieringer Weiher, a forest pond 2km away. In winter there is cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and snow walks. The cedarwood platform is used for outdoor yoga when the weather allows.

What separates this from a resort yoga week is the format. Meals are served twice a day, not three times, and the food is strictly vegetarian with no eggs, garlic, onions, mushrooms, vinegar, radishes or leeks. The hotel has been organic, vegetarian and smoke-free for 50 years and sources from certified organic farms. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms and no televisions, which is deliberate. The daily rhythm is fixed and early, and the whole place runs on the Sivananda schedule rather than a modern wellness timetable.
