Home › Retreats › Yoga and Hiking Wellness Escape in Norway's Rondane National Park
Norway · 3 days · From USD 570
Rondane National Park was established in 1962, making it Norway's first national park, and it still feels raw and untouched. The landscape is a mix of barren high peaks and gentle slopes dotted with old mountain farms. The retreat is based at Høvringen, a traditional mountain village that serves as a gateway to the park. From here, hundreds of kilometers of marked trails run in every direction, and the retreat's guides know the best routes for each day's conditions and the group's energy levels.
The retreat is run by NoeiOm, a small operation founded by Noemie, who does nearly everything herself—teaching, guiding, cooking, and organizing. She trained as a dance therapist and psychomotrician in Paris, holds a 200-hour Yoga Alliance certification, and is currently studying the Iyengar method. She also brings a lot of outdoor experience, having worked as a raft guide and sauna master. That combination of movement expertise and wilderness knowledge shapes the whole week.
Yoga sessions happen twice a day in a dedicated space or outdoors, depending on the weather. The styles vary: Vinyasa flow, pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation, an inversion workshop, and restorative Iyengar-focused sessions for the evenings. Guest reviews consistently mention how well the yoga is calibrated to different levels. One beginner said it was 'an eye-opening retreat' where hikes and classes 'stretch us all a little bit more each day.' The instructor, Noemie, gets frequent praise for being compassionate and skilled.
Hikes are led by local guides who adjust the distance and difficulty to the group. On the moderate day you'll climb Formokampen, a 1,397-meter peak with a 360-degree view that takes in over 40 peaks, including Norway's two highest, Galdhøpiggen and Glittertinden. The longer optional hike goes to Peer Gynt's cabin, a 19-kilometer trail along the Høvringsvatnet lake, named after the famous reindeer hunter from Ibsen's play. The trail is described as easy and clear, without steep sections, but it still takes most of the day.
Evenings are about recovery. After dinner, there's often a medicinal sauna ritual with therapeutic aromatherapy, followed by a jump into the fresh waters of a nearby pond or a 'polar bath' in the wild river. It's invigorating, to say the least. The last evening includes a group circle to reflect on the experience and say goodbyes. The retreat includes shuttle pickup from Otta train station, which is reachable directly from Oslo Airport (OSL) by train, making logistics relatively simple even for an international visitor.
