Yoga and Island Adventure Retreat in Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu

The retreat runs for six days and five nights, based entirely at Deco Stop Lodge in Luganville, Espiritu Santo. Each day includes a flow yoga session, plus yin yoga and meditation in the evening. Breakfast and dinner are served at the lodge's poolside restaurant and bar, where the chefs cook with local ingredients. One day is set aside for an island beach bus tour with lunch, and there is an Ayurvedic lifestyle workshop during the week.

Deco Stop Lodge has 12 rooms and sits about five minutes' walk from Luganville's main township. The property has an infinity pool with lounges on the surrounding deck, and views across Luganville and the Segond Channel towards the outer islands. Rooms come with air conditioning, fans, a mini fridge, plunger coffee and tea making facilities, and beach and bath towels are provided.

What separates this from a standard yoga week is the location. Espiritu Santo is Vanuatu's largest island, and the lodge is a base for things you cannot do in a studio setting: snorkelling the reef and WWII wreck sites, kayaking to the blue holes, exploring the millennium caves, or horse riding along the beaches. The optional activities are booked separately, so you can shape the week around how much you want to do.

The yoga is led by the Makai Yoga Collective team. The collective runs a studio at 89 Point Lonsdale Road in Point Lonsdale, Victoria, above Pasquinis, and this is their Vanuatu retreat. The programme covers flow yoga in the mornings and slower yin practice plus meditation in the evenings, so there is a mix of active and quiet sessions across the five full days.

Group size is kept small by the size of the lodge, and the setup suits solo travellers as well as couples or friends sharing. The Deluxe Double Room takes two people with a queen bed and a single bed, and the Deluxe Single Room has a queen bed for one. Extra nights can be arranged with the retreat hosts if you want to stay on after the programme ends.
