Yoga and Istria Coast Adventure in Rovinj, Croatia

Croatia · 7 days · From USD 750

The day usually starts with yoga and meditation with Kristin Cork, timed so you finish and eat before the day's outing. The yoga is described as all-levels, working on steadiness and balance and on the exhale — nothing that requires prior experience. Three early evenings add a second, gentler session outdoors in the park.

Breakfast is a large buffet at the hotel: freshly squeezed juices, oysters on the half shell, freshly baked bread, and gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan options. One evening is a welcome dinner at the start of the week and one is a farewell dinner at the end; on the other evenings you eat where you like. The hotel has a terrace restaurant and the Michelin-starred Algi Amici, and there are cafés along the promenade and in the old town.

The excursions are led by local Croatian guides. One full day covers the hill towns of central Istria, including Motovun and the artist town of Grožnjan. Another is a food and wine day at the five-star Meneghetti vineyard, with tastings of local wines, cheeses and olive oils. A shorter trip goes to Tony's Oysters in Lim Bay Fjord to eat oysters pulled from the bay. There is also a guided walking tour of Rovinj itself and a sunset boat trip around the peninsula to watch dolphins. One day is left completely free.

What separates this from a generic yoga week is the hotel and the access it brings. The Grand Park is regularly described as one of Croatia's most beautiful buildings, with 30,000 Mediterranean plants across the grounds. Guests get the spa, the pools, the gym, the bikes and the boat to the private island as part of the stay, so the free afternoons have somewhere real to go.

Kristin Cork owns Be.Yoga in Avon, Connecticut, and has taught more than 15,000 hours of yoga in over 10 countries. She runs retreats several times a year and also leads 100-hour yoga immersions, 200-hour teacher trainings and mentorship programmes for teachers. Her own focus is on alignment and sequencing.

The setting is the Istria region, the largest green area on the northern Adriatic. Rovinj, on the west coast, is a fishing port with cobbled streets, galleries and a reputation as "Little Venice". Inland there are vineyards, truffle woods and olive groves; the coast has beaches and a string of small islands offshore.
