Normandy · 3 days · From EUR 539 (indicative)
Day one starts at the harbour master's office in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, where you meet Bharati before the short boat crossing to Tatihou. You check into your room at Les Maisons de Tatihou, then the first workshop runs from 16:30 to 18:30: an opening circle over an Indian chai prepared by Bharati, where everyone says what they hope to get from the weekend, followed by meditation on the five elements, pranayama, yin yoga and guided relaxation. Dinner is a seafood platter with dessert and a hot drink, and Bharati then leads a meditative night walk by the water before the night's sleep.
Day two opens with the second workshop from 08:00 to 09:30, held at the top of the Vauban tower if the weather permits. It covers the five elements meditation, morning pranayama, asanas linked to the water element, guided relaxation and time to talk as a group. Brunch at the island restaurant runs 10:00 to 11:00, and the afternoon is free — swim or rest on one of the island's beaches, walk the gardens, read, or visit the maritime museum. The third workshop runs 16:00 to 18:00 with silent walking in the open air, asanas exploring how the body moves, pranayama and guided relaxation, then dinner at the restaurant.
Day three begins with the fourth workshop, 08:00 to 09:30: five elements meditation, a morning ritual to wake and cleanse the body, pranayama and sun salutations, guided relaxation, and a closing circle where people share how the weekend went. Brunch follows from 10:00 to 11:00, and the boat back to the harbour leaves in the early afternoon.
What separates this from a standard yoga weekend is the setting. Tatihou is tidal — reachable by boat, and the island itself is small enough to walk end to end. The Vauban tower and the maritime museum are on site, and the gardens are part of what you wander through between sessions. Practising outdoors with seabirds overhead and the sea audible throughout is the reason the trip exists.
Bharati Mishra comes from Mumbai and teaches what she describes as yoga from her Indian roots, made accessible to everyone in the room. Past guests mention her attentiveness and the care she takes over the group; one review notes that people of different ages and backgrounds practised together and that she adapted the sessions to suit each person. She prepares the welcome chai herself and leads the night walk.
The trip is organised by the Cotentin tourist office with Sarah Lejeune handling logistics, which shows in the practical details: boat transfers both ways, all meals, yoga equipment provided, a covered room available if the weather turns, and a welcome bag with local produce and the destination magazine.
