The trip runs from 15 to 21 November 2026, which is 7 days and 6 nights. The first night is in a hotel in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and that is where you visit the falls. The falls are about 1,708 metres wide and drop up to 108 metres into a gorge. The spray is heavy enough to support a patch of rainforest around the edge, and you will get wet on the viewing paths. Next morning the Munga Plains team picks the group up and drives you across the border into Botswana. A double-entry Zimbabwe visa is recommended, partly because most people fly home out of Victoria Falls.
At Munga Plains the days settle into a pattern. Wake early for an energetic vinyasa class in the outdoor shala, then have breakfast. Late morning or afternoon is given to a safari, which might be a 4x4 game drive in Chobe National Park, a boat trip along the river or a guided bush walk. Evenings bring a quieter class: restorative postures, chakra work based on the elements, meditation or yoga nidra. Dinner follows, eaten at camp.
The difference from a typical yoga retreat is the setting and who runs the camp. The camp is built from wood, thatching grass and canvas. It runs on solar power and treats its own water and sewage. Its staff are hired locally, and it works with the Basubiya community on school and artisan projects. So the dance, drumming and village visits are run with the people who live there, not staged for tourists. The safari activities also feed into conservation work in Chobe National Park.
Amrita Jules leads the yoga. She grew up in Zimbabwe, lives in the UK and has practised for over 20 years and taught for 15. She trained first in the Sivananda tradition in Germany. She then trained with Jivamukti founders Sharon Gannon and David Life, finishing her Jivamukti teacher training at the Omega Institute in New York in 2008. She is an 800-hour certified Jivamukti teacher. Classes are pitched for all levels, and she builds sequences around who is actually in the group.
As for location, Chobe sits in north-east Botswana, close to where Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia meet. The park has huge elephant herds, and the river frontage draws hippos, crocodiles and a wide range of birds. Victoria Falls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is only a short drive away, so the trip covers two countries without long transfers.
There are two optional extras. You can arrive a day early, on 14 November, for a night at a 4-star Victoria Falls hotel with dinner, bed and breakfast and an optional sunrise yoga class on a riverboat on the Zambezi. Or you can carry on after the retreat with a 3 to 6 day guided mobile safari, camping in tents with a guide team in Chobe and finishing in Kasane.
