India · 7 days · From USD 818
This retreat weaves together yoga, meditation, and hands-on creative work in a way that feels natural rather than packed. Each day begins gently: a guided session of yoga, pranayama, and meditation that suits every level, held in the silence of the high-altitude mountains. From there, the schedule moves through a mix of workshops and cultural visits that give you a textured sense of Ladakh—not as a tourist, but as a guest.
Among the creative highlights, you'll learn cyanotype printing, a sun-powered art form using natural materials to make blue-toned prints, then turn them into a handmade journal in a bookbinding session with photographer Ayan Biswas. There's also a pottery class with Rigzin Namgyal, whose family has been potting in the village of Likir for a thousand years. A bodywork session led by Grey—a martial artist and bodyworker with over two decades of experience—offers assisted movement, acupressure, and energetic alignment designed to release tension and settle the nervous system.
The cultural side is just as rich. Early mornings might take you to ancient monasteries, where prayer flags flutter and the silence feels deep. A visit to SECMOL, the Students' Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh, gives insight into alternative education and sustainable living in this landscape. And a nutrition workshop with Astha Khandelwal, a certified integrative medicine expert, turns eating into something mindful—food as medicine, with simple recipes you can take home.
Throughout there's a strong emphasis on simply being. Rest days, journaling, quiet walks, and time to sit by a sacred lake or share tea with hosts are built into the rhythm. For those interested, the retreat offers traditional yogic cleansing practices (Jal Neti and Shankh Prakshalan) with careful guidance—though they're entirely optional. This is a retreat that respects both structure and spontaneity, making it suitable for anyone from first-time yogis to seasoned practitioners.
