Yoga & Ayurveda Wellness Week in the Tyrolean Alps

Yoga & Ayurveda Wellness Week in the Tyrolean Alps

Austria · 8 days · From EUR 1245

Days start with a 60-minute yoga class in the morning: meditation first, then pranayama (breathing exercises), then asanas and a guided shavasana to close. The afternoon class runs another 60 minutes and, on the therapy programme, leans more into Yoga Nidra for deep relaxation rather than active postures. Between the two sessions, the hotel schedule is your own — breakfast, a walk, the spa, or a treatment.

The difference between the two versions is what comes with the yoga. The plain 'Yoga program' week adds one Indian head massage (30 minutes). The 'Yoga therapy' week steps it up: an Ayurveda workshop on the 3 doshas and 5 elements, an Ayurvedic type determination, a detox body scrub, a full Abhyanga massage, a Shiroabhyanga, and the option to book a private yoga lesson or a Thai yoga massage. Both versions include 7 yoga classes of 60 minutes, morning and afternoon, with meditation and pranayama built into every session. If you're mainly here to ski or hike and want a lighter yoga add-on, take the plain programme; if you want the treatment side of Ayurveda worked through properly, take the therapy week.

The location is what separates this from a city studio retreat. Traumhotel Alpina sits in Gerlos in the Zillertal, a village at the head of a valley surrounded by Alpine peaks. In summer you're on the doorstep of the Zillertal's marked hiking network; the Krimml waterfalls, Austria's highest, are a drive away. In winter the Zillertal ski area — one of Austria's larger lift networks — is the draw, and the hotel runs a ski service. The altitude and the mountain air make a difference to how a morning breathing practice feels, whether you're here for green season or snow.

The hotel is a 4-star Superior property, so the comfort level is a step above a dedicated retreat centre: proper spa facilities, half-board or full board, and rooms that are hotel rooms rather than retreat dorms. Treatments are done in the hotel's spa area. Yoga takes place in the hotel's own space rather than an off-site shala.

Food-wise, the Traumhotel Alpina operates as a hotel with an a la carte restaurant and its own board arrangements, so breakfast, lunch and dinner are handled on site, with the usual Tyrolean and Austrian cooking plus lighter options available. The Ayurveda workshop touches on diet as part of the dosha teaching, but the kitchen runs as a hotel kitchen — this isn't a strict detox retreat where the menu is prescribed. Guests with dietary requirements should flag them at booking.

Most people come as solo travellers or couples. The fixed arrival dates mean you'll be practising alongside a small mixed group who booked the same week, which suits people who want company without a group-tour structure. You need no prior yoga experience for the plain programme; the therapy week assumes you're comfortable with a daily practice since you'll be moving twice a day for a week.
